You can do a "subject" or a "keyword" search.
Tip: A subject search locks you into just the subject headings; a keyword search looks for your words everywhere in the catalog. Do a keyword to expand your possibilities, but always try a subject search first.
There are books available for 7-day check out at the Main Library Circulation Desk for Arch 1100. The books on this list are good choices for those students that selected ancient buildings and for general information about the history of architecture and time periods.
The Arch 1100 reserves list is located here: http://lrc.cod.edu/search/r?SEARCH=architecture
Its also important to look at materials that are in the reference collection and in books that are about broad topics in architecture (survey books). Your textbook is an example of a survey book.
Here are some excellent examples of these kinds of books.
You can also use books at other libraries to supplement your research. The library has borrowing agreements with other local colleges and you can use a special website called World Cat to find books and other materials from all over the country.
Don't forget that you are allowed to go in person to other libraries like IIT and UIC to use their materials in the Library. You wouldn't be allowed to check out materials but could make copies of book pages and articles.
