Getting Started

Library Cards

  • All C.O.D. students can get a free Library card. It only takes a minute to get a card.
  • See the Library Cards page for more details.
  • Cards can be used to check out books, software, general collection videos, and rental videos. Your Library card also gives you access to article databases from home.

  • Use the Library Web site to search for and access most of the resources and services available from the Library.
  • Use the Library site to access and find books, videos, journal articles, Web sites, e-mail and chat reference, the Assignment Calculator, Video tutorials, and more...

Finding Books, Videos, and Software in the Library

You can use the C.O.D. Library Catalog to search for items in the C.O.D. Library. This includes books, videos, and software.

  • Use the Quick Search box on the Library home page to search for items by keyword, subject, title, author, or call number.
  • Click on "Other search options" for more search choices such as advanced keyword searches.

Location information

By clicking on titles in your search results, you can find details about each item including location and availability information:

Sorting

Because you generally want the most current information for technology research, sort your results by date to see the newest items listed first:

Searching the Web

  • From anywhere in the Library site, click the "Web Sites" link.
  • Here, you'll find all kinds of special search engines and other types of web search tools.
    • Special search engines can search for images, audio files, and videos.
    • They can also be used to search special sites like news sites, blogs, Wikipedia, and online book sites.
  • Search engine "advanced search" screens can make your searches more powerful.


Citing Sources Help

  • From the Library home page, click on "Citing sources"
  • With your Library card, you can access NoodleBib, an online tool that helps you create and store citations.
