Markup

• The C.O.D. Library home page and global layout templates are valid XHTML 1.0 transitional. Generally, additional site content is also valid XHTML 1.0 and we use content management systems that generate valid XHTML. In some cases, due to the distributed nature of this site's content creation, there are instances of non-valid, hand-generated markup. However, we are constantly striving to improve the quality of all site mark-up and encourage users to notify us when content is not valid or rendering incorrectly.
• This site also generally uses valid CSS. In a limited number of instances, non-valid "hacks" have been implemented to address inconsistent renderings in non-standards compliant browsers. But these workarounds are kept to a minimum.

Accessibility

• The C.O.D. Library home page and global layout templates are designed with the guidance of the Functional Accessibility Evaluator. Created by the Illinois Center for Instructional Technology Accessibility at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the FAE "analyzes web resources for markup that is consistent with the use of CITES/DRES HTML Best Practices for development of functionally accessible web resources that also support interoperability."
• In addition to using the FAE, this site is designed using concepts and techniques that best support universal access to people and a wide variety of user agents including text browsers, voice browsers, and hand-held devices.

Content Management

• Some parts of this site are powered by MediaWiki wiki software.

• Some parts of this site are powered by WordPress weblog software.

• Some parts of this site are powered by the del.icio.us social bookmarking web service.
