Interior Design Books

The Library has four different types of collections of books.

  • General Collection: Books you can take home.
  • Reserve Collection: Materials your instructor has set aside for your class. Look up your class here.
  • Reference Collection: Books used for quick, factual information. Not available for check out.
  • Electronic Books: Books to read on your computer. These are located either via the catalog or in the Knovel Interactive Library, below.

Use the Library Catalog to find Books!

You can do a "subject" or a "keyword" search to find materials.

Tip: A subject search locks you into just the subject headings; a keyword search looks for your words everywhere in the catalog. Do a keyword to expand your possibilities, but always try a subject search first.

Below are sample Subject searches to get started browsing the books in the Library's General Collection. Take a look at how the subjects are set up: Big to very narrow.

Tip: The Library of Congress subject heading for Interior Design is: "Interior Decoration." sorry! ;)

Subject: Interior Decoration (The BIG topic)

Subject: Interior Decoration History (Narrower topic)

Subject: Interior Decoration United States (Even more narrow)

Draperies (Super narrow topic)

Here are some Interior Design searches done by Keyword:

Keywords: sustainable interior design

Keywords: portfolios

Keywords: window treatments

Reference Books

There are several encyclopedias, handbooks and dictionaries in the Library to use for a quick lookup. Reference materials are not typically something you sit down and read cover to cover. Here is a selection:

Electronic Books

The Library has a small collection of electronic books in the Interior Design and Decoration subject areas, mostly about technical aspects of interior design. You can find these in the Library catalog, but a great place for you to look is in the Knovel Library. Here are a few selections from Knovel:
