Welcome to the C.O.D. Library's Computer Science Research Guide. This guide is intended to be a starting point for researching a variety of topics in computer science. These topics include any number of hardware, software, and networking systems.

Using this guide, you'll be able to locate articles, books, videos, Web sites, and other resources that will help you begin your research. Additionally, you'll learn how the Library can provide additonal help both online and in-person.

Online Articles

The Library provides access to many online article databases that will help you locate journal, magazine, and newspaper articles. You can search by keyword, subject, author and title.

MetaFind 
MetaFind is a tool available to C.O.D. Library card holders that allows you to search multiple databases, Library catalogs, and search engines at the same time.

Articles in the Library

The Library has current copies of the following computing journals and magazines in the current periodicals section of the Library. Issues that are more than a year or two old can usually be found in the microfilm area of the Library.

Articles from Other Libraries

You can use Interlibrary Loan to request articles that are unavailable from article databases or the C.O.D. Library. Other libraries will send us either electronic or a print versions of articles you request. This is a free service offered to anyone who has a current C.O.D. Library Card.

Subject Directories 
Subject directories list Web sites organized by subject. Although directories index fewer sites than search engines, these sites have been evaluated by an editorial staff and can be of higher quality.

Additional Research Help

Reference Services
In-Person The Library Reference Center desk is staffed during all Library hours. Librarians in this area can answer any of your research questions.
Phone Librarians are also available during all Library hours via phone at (630) 942-3364.
E-Mail Library's e-mail reference service is available to C.O.D. Library cardholders. Using the service, you can fill out a form detailing your questions. An e-mail will be sent with your information to the Library and you'll get a response within 24 hours.
Instant Messaging Using the Library's Instant Messaging reference service to ask us questions using AOL or Yahoo! instant message accounts.
