QR Codes

QR Code

What are QR Codes?

How are they used in the Library?

Where can I get a QR Code reader?

Think of QR codes as square barcodes that hold various information within them. Instead of bars, they consist of pixels arranged in a square pattern. The data encoded can be text, a URL, or other data.

QR Codes will work on smartphones with the help of any type of QR scanner app. Download the appropriate app for your phone before proceeding. (Links listed below).

QR Codes can be found on records in the Library Catalog. Scanning the QR code will let you save and display the book's information on your phone. You can just show the Reference Librarian or the Circulation Desk the resource you need.

To get them

  • Go to our Library Catalog from www.cod.edu/library
  • Enter your search terms.
  • Select an item from the results.
  • On your phone, turn on the QR Code scanner app.
  • Point your phone at the QR code on the lower right corner. Once you scan it, the book's information will be displayed on your phone. (Sample code at the top of this page.)
