Linking to Media

Streaming Media

The Library subscribes to a several collections of films and music for use online. The Library offers 105 streaming online videos in the areas of philosophy, education, music, careers, and technical education resources. For dozens of additional, freely available streaming media sites, browse this list of Streaming Media Databases.

Linking to Streaming Media

There are five steps to linking to or embedding media in your course pages:

  1. Identify the method defined by the database for presenting persistent links to single media files or to collections of files that you define (faculty folders).
  2. Obtain the persistent link to the media or to the faculty folder, or download the media to your local machine (if allowed).
  3. Copy this link to your clipboard for pasting into BB, or upload the media to the BB server.
  4. Decide how you want to present the link to the student. We recommend that you link the student out of blackboard to the media material. Blackboard currently supports the embedding of video from the YouTube service and of video that has been uploaded into Blackboard.

NOTE: Depending on the resource, downloading and embedding single media files into your course pages could be viewed as a copyright violation. The safest way to use media in your courses is to link the student out to the material. If you need help with getting copyright permissions or have questions about copyright, please contact the Electronic Resources Librarian, Denise Cote at cotede@cod.edu
