Information Literacy Module #1: Library 101

What is Information to You?

Information can be...

  • What you saw on TV.
  • What you heard on the radio.
  • A favorite book you can't put down.
  • Your professor's lecture that you missed.
  • A YouTube clip your friend passed along in an email.
  • An author's blog about her new book.
  • The nightly news watched before you go to bed.

Information can be found everywhere! Human beings, the Internet, television, radio, print sources, and electronic documents all communicate information. There's a lot of information running around!

This module will introduce you to:

  • The different types and attributes of information.
  • The role of libraries in the information landscape.
  • Tools for getting information, including the Library's Web site, catalog and databases, and the Internet.
  • Services, resources, and online tools available at the library.
