Barbershop and Barbershop 2: Back in Business

See the movie that made Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton mad! There are no sacred cows in either of the two Barbershop movies-- the characters tackle topics as diverse as Rosa Park's role in the Civil Rights movement, Jesus' religion and whether or not scallops are seafood. Set in a South Side barbershop and filmed, in part, in Chicago.

Candyman

A very scary yet well-done horror movie set in Chicago's Cabrini-Green projects. In the course of researching her thesis on modern folklore, graduate student Helen Lyle unleashes the Candyman, a truly frightening figure who appears, Bloody Mary-like, when his name is spoken five times into a mirror. Based on Clive Barker's story "The Forbidden".

Eight Men Out

The Chicago White Sox scandal of 1919 brought to the big screen with Chicagoland mainstay John Cusak, D.B. Sweeney, Charlie Sheen, and David Strathairn. Despite the obvious Chicago storyline, the ballpark scenes were largely filmed in Indianapolis.

Lana's Rain

Lana flees her war-torn home in Bosnia for a new life in Chicago only to get caught up in her brother Darko's criminal life. A grim exploration of the Land of Opportunity myth directed by Chicago native and Columbia College alum Michael Ojeda.

Ocean's Twelve

Not much work got done in Lake Forest during the weeks of April of 2004 when Clooney and crew filmed scenes for this sequel. This heist caper takes Ocean's cohorts to similarly exotic locales like Amsterdam and Paris.

His Girl Friday

A comedy feature about a Chicago newspaper editor and his star reporter. Starring Clark Gable and Rosalind Russell and based on the play by Chicago journalist/Hollywood writer Ben Hecht.

I, Robot

It's Chicago in the year 2035: robots are killing people and Richard Daley is no longer mayor. Shocking! Will Smith stars in this big screen adaptation of Isaac Asimov's classic sci-fi thriller.

The Weather Man

Nicholas Cage is a reviled forecaster for a Chicago television station in what can either be called a comedy that makes you feel bad or drama that makes you laugh, depending on your outlook on life. This movie was actually filmed in Chicago, and features a cameo by WGN weatherman Tom Skilling (who also served as a technical advisor for the film!).

Proof

Set in Hyde Park and the University of Chicago. While scenes were filmed on campus, the movie plays fast and loose with real University geography, taking liberties here and there which may annoy alums and others familiar with the University.
