- Approximately 17,000 images provided by the Department of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. Includes maps as well as plant and animal images. Read their complete terms of agreement before using. A portion of it states "Permitted Use of the Images is limited to noncommercial or educational purposes, such as multimedia presentations for a course, a web page for a course, a web page of a non-profit organization or a personal, noncommercial web site."

- According to the site "The images and photos found in this archive come from three main sources: the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). Each of these sites clearly state that their photos and images are in the public domain and give the conditions for their use. Please read their statements. " Images are mostly nature related.
- Exploratorium Digital Library
- "The different collections in the library include digital media and digitized museum materials related to interactive exhibits and scientific phenomena, including images, educational activities in PDF and html formats, QuickTime movies, streaming media, and audio files. You may search, select and download digital files for individual, noncommercial educational use."

- Includes images of minerals, metals, living things, plants, etc. Images may be downloaded and used by "the news media or for educational or non-commercial scientific purposes. In all cases, published credit must be given."

- Over 9000 NASA press release photos of the the American manned space program. Most photos are in the public domain; check the permission page for more information. Links to other NASA photo sites.

- National Oceanic and Atmosperhic Administration Photo Library
- Wide variety of photos of natural conditions. Most are in the public domain.
- NOAA Paleoclimatology Slides
- "...provide background on a variety of paleoclimatology subjects, including Ice Ages, Tree Rings, Ice Cores, Coral Reefs and much more."" Most slides are in the public domain. You must give credit to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Paleoclimatology Program/Department of Commerce along with credit to the photographer or other source where given. Slides may not be used for any commercial purposes without prior permission.

- vPlants: a Virtual Herbarium of the Chicago Region
- Searchable database that provides free plant specimen data on 90,000 plant specimens and about 50,000 digital images in the Chicago area. Information provided by the Field Museum of Natural History, Morton Arboretum, and the Chicago Botanic Garden.
