Online Course Examples

  • 2009 Master list of Blackboard Exemplary Courses
The Exemplary Course Program (ECP) recognizes courses that model best practices in learning, course design, interaction and collaboration, assessment and evaluation, meaningful technology use, and learner support.

Speaking Points

  • All faculty have access to Blackboard-- something new faculty may not be aware of
  • Blackboard isn't just for online courses. All courses automatically have a Blackboard course shell created.
  • All work created in Blackboard can be copied and put into a new version of a course for the next semester-- library content can be reused
  • Faculty should be aware of some of Blackboards most useful tools: grade center, communication tools, content storage, streaming media, links, direct assignment submission, SafeAssign, Self and Peer Assessment Tool
  • Online instructors don't need to move all of their course content into Blackboard in order to use it-- encourage them to start small with the Grade Center or by adding their handouts or a Syllabus.
  • Faculty can easily customize their courses by including online content-- especially Library content
  • Blackboard makes sharing and collaborating easier.

The Embedded Librarian: Levels of Involvement

  • Level 1 Liaison Link: Ask your online teaching faculty to change the link for the Library button on their course menus. They can redirect the link to your personal homepage or to a research guide applicable to the course. (Click to see example)
  • Level 2 Export & Copy: Create embeddable content in your own Blackboard shell, export that content and make it available to your online teaching faculty to copy into their course. (Click to see example)
  • Level 3 The Embedded Librarian: Get added to your online teaching faculty's course as an instructor, allowing you to create content and send announcements and giving you access to student assignments and additional course content. (Click to see example)
